Artist Note

This piece was a humorous and disturbing fantasia of an explorer’s last thought while freezing to death in Antarctica. There was an igloo dress and a fantasy nurse. The explorer sees penguins and believes that they are friends. Karen wanted penguin costumes that were recognizable without being literal. So I designed hooded stretch velvet body suits with orange zippers and fuzzy arm-warmer wings, airbrushing dark grey backs so that each dancer had individual markings when they turned.
